2024 No Alibi - Kapitel Zwei Wine

 In 2023, I was in New York and missed the harvest due to my studies, which required an apprenticeship at a winery. The 2023 vintage was called “Alibi” since being 6,700 kilometers (4,200 miles) is a reasonable excuse to miss my own harvest — some may disagree. For 2024, there was “No Alibi”, as I was very much involved in the harvest, hence the name of the vintage.

Unlike 2023, 2024 includes 3% Roussanne and 3% Sémillon, which were planted at Kapitel Zwei in 2022 along with 7% Chenin Blanc. You won’t taste them at such small quantities, but I wanted to show that my other varieties are bearing fruit. The 87% Grüner Veltliner is from 30-40 year old vines from both Kapitel Zwei and from my friends at Weingut Feldtheorie.

The organic grapes for “No Alibi” were handpicked on several days in mid-September 2024. The must underwent spontaneous fermentation for 14 days followed by malolatic fermentation (MLF) after which it aged in amphora on the gross lees (yeast) until bottling.

The wine is bottled in 500ml brown glass bottles. It will be extremely limited to 95 bottles. Each bottle will be individually hand stamped with its serial number.
